Urbanek's 250

thank you sir - much appreciated.

I definitely need to do research on this - I just find it hard to comprehend.
In a closed loop that you designed - your "drains" were also at the bottom of the tank - so were your returns.

how did you prevent the grains of sand going through these drains? wouldnt that mess up your pump? I would have loved to see some pics of how you managed the drains and the returns within the rock works... is there any chance at all you have them saved somewhere?

The light fixture you used... was it 60" or 48"
Apologies if i missed that in your postings...

and how did you find that coverage for the 72 x 36 foot print?

How was your impression of the T5/LED hybrid?
was the added LED clusters worth the extra price in your opinion?

thank you for continuing to help

I had the 60" unit with 8 t5 bulbs. The light is awesome! I had coverage everywhere except the 6" around the edge of the tank. If the had a 72" unit I would go that route. I used the leds to light the tank in the evening so I could view the tank to my liking. In other words T5/LED during the day for growth, LED only after I got home to my liking. Again, loved the light.

I have been conducting my research as a lurker on this forum and this journal is so well written that I want to set up my tank exactly like this. I am going to shamelessly mimic a lot of support equipment and details. I have had freshwater planted tanks for years and now saving up to go to the next level. journals like these are very motivating and educational. Thank you for taking all the effort to put this together.

Just finished watching the 20 episodes of Urbanek's 250 and have so many questions! Who purchased the tank and stand?! Will all the corals be back for season two?! Will the clownfish have babies?! When will season two start?! I must know!

Feel free to copy any and all ideas. That's what the forums are all about. Thanks for the view and comment.

Thanks for the view and comment. Tank was sold to a guy in Vegas. It's setup and running. I've seen a few pics thru text but nothin online.

Corals were all sold off with the exception of a few frags that are with a friend of mine.

Season 2 has started, you can find it on the other forum. Do a search for Urbanek's ADA Trio.

It's a reef central thing. If you look at the other forum, they've got the work around in place to have the pics live.

April 12th, 2016 - Photo Update

It's been almost a week since I've posted. Here is a quick photo/reef update.

Sunday was one of the my best reefing days ever! We all know how much time and effort goes into our reefs, because of that time and effort I always love to have visitors to view the aquarium. Most of the time, the visitors can't really appreciate what they are looking at. Yesterday was a great exception. I had the honor of being visited by Dr. Sanjay Joshi who is a frequent speaker at MACNA and other reef conferences. Sanjay was in Arizona to speak at Desert Frag Fest. As part of his visit, he toured a couple of the local reefs and mine happened to be one of them. Needless to say, it was a very cool experience for me. Sanjay was immediately drawn to my Pearlberry colony. I was quick to offer him a piece which he accepted. I can think of no better compliment or honor than for Sanjay to want a piece of my coral. Here is a new top down of the Pearl Berry.

I know this is a very old post, but I saw an interview with Sanjay about his 500G reef in which he named his pearlberry as one of his favorite colonies and spoke about how special receiving frags like this is to him. I had read your story a while back and just rediscovered it today. I thought you may like to know that he feels your meeting was important just as you do.

What a great post!
This is very cool.
