urchin and purple gorgonian question

I found my sea urchin attached to the purple gorgonian this morning and it appeared to be eating the purple flesh off. I removed it from the coral and placed on the other side of the tank. Has anyone ever had this happen? Any ideas why it did this? And last question, should I remove it from the tank?

I have a long spine urchin with my sea fans. When he touches them thet close up but are fine a couple hours later. I never really noticed him eating them

Hi,

I had an Urchin and several Gorgonians and it never touched any of them. The Urchin might have been grazing on the rock by the Gorgonian and could have disturbed some of the flesh.

It had been on a rock, but was clearly on the coral. It removed a strip of purple flesh about 3/4 inch long. I've not seen it back around the coral, since I removed it from the coral and put it on the other side of the tank. I thought it was really weird and have no idea why it did this. I know this isn't normal behavior.
