i was just doing my nightly search of my tank (trying to catch a crab and check the trap) and found a dime sized urchin on one of my rocks, he has a round green body, clearish brown spikes with light green rings at the bases of the spines, my rock is from indonesia and tonga if that helps, i have a pic but i crashed my pc last week and am on my old one so ill post it hopefully tommorow

TIA

A pic would probably help in the ID of the urchin. Does it have long spines or short spines compared to it's size?

I agree, you really need a pic. From the description, it sounds like one of the short spined urchins, but not a pincushion urchin. There are a number of species that also are not available commercially, but come in as hitchhikers, so ID is not always easy.

Here's WWW's FAQ on urchin ID. Note that there are a number of other Wet Web urchin pages linked from that one at the top which also have pics.
