Urchin Question

Hey,

I picked up a blue tuxedo urchin from Phishybusiness yesterday to help cleanup all of the various macro algeas in my 15g. I put it on the tnak wall, and it immediatly began to crawl around. Today, however, the urchin hasn't moved, and is on the sand bed. Do urchins normally not move aorund all that much? Are blue tuxedos poisonous?

Thanks,

CJ

Tuxs arent as mobile as some other urchins, but you should at least see spines and tubefeet moving. Kinda unusual to be sitting on the sandbed though.
All urchins are poisonous, tough tuxedos arent dangerous to people.

Mine would sit still for periods of time. Usually if he was munching on something though. He didn't seem to eat the algae fast enough to make a difference for me though.

how long did you acclimate it? they are very pretty sensitive to water parameters and changes

Mine sometimes sits for maby a couple of hours at a time without moving then all of a sudden he's on the other side of the tank.

I have three tuxedos in my tank. They normally do not sit around in one place very long. I hardly ever see them in my sand bed let along sitting in the sand bed.

I acclimated it for 45 minutes.

I did move it around to see if I could see any of its tentacles mover things, and they were out and moving, but it still is pretty much in the same spot. It has moved maybe a few inches.

it may just be full. also ... if its eating cyano too, I think it has some effect on the animal .. my mexican turbos act that way when they eat cyano .. they just eat a little, then sleep for a day .. then eat a little ... then sleep... they seemed to like eating it ok, but they went in super slow motion while they ate it ..

but as long as its not dropping spines left and right, I wouldn't panic.
