so are these guys ok together? I have a tux urchin in my zoa tank and I wanted to make sure there wouldn't be a problem with the urch attacking my zoas. Any thoughts would be appreciated.
i think any kind of urchin should be fine in your tank.
i have 2 of these guys, who came as hitch hikers on a blue zoa colony, they were about the size of a pencil head eraser over a year ago, and now are the size of golf balls.
only problem is, that move stuff around ALOT. frags falling all over the place. one got so annoying and big, he is now living with my mantis.
only problems i've heard with tuxedo urchins, is that they like to decorate themselves. so if you dont mind your small zoa frags mysteriously moving around the tank i think it will be fine
surfnvb i believe those are rock boaring urchins. I have a few from hitchiking on my liverock.
Those are the only urchins i would keep. I had pencil, and pink urchins and they were bulldozers worse than jumbo turbo's.
Too bad lfs dont sell those urchins they make better tank cleaners.IMO
i wouldn't recomend keeping these either. they also bulldoze stuff all over the place. i've seen huge rock slides in my system due to both. which is why i had to move one to now live with my mantis. the other may have to go in there too. it will be cool if they can double in size in another year, the mantis doesn't seem to take any interest to them.
Well maybe i got lucky, Mine is content in a small area and doesent pick up frags, or move much. It stays in a general area and scrubs it clean.
I have noticed about 2 years ago and its basically the same size.
Golf ball like yours.
I have a Blue Tuxedo Urchin and he somehow picks off the zoa's off the rocks and walks around with them stuck all over him. He is about to get out of the tank the next time it happens.
