URS PAR reading picture thread

Thanks Gary and Jason. Sometimes its not so easy to figure out which products to use for what (and which claims to believe).

As you can my PAR readings are low compared to Gary's but yet my coral is thriving. Again different coral has different light needs and maybe mine are not growing as fast but that said it is as fast and full as I would want it. A great next test would be for me to go to 250w hqi's and see the difference, I have contiplated this but the old saying if it ain't broke

From the Reef Crawl today, have to find a shot of my tank as did not take one during the crawl to add the numbers too:

No problem Mark, having the meter added a bit more education and fun to the 9 hours or so we spent travelling around the area.

Wow Kurt, well done!!! How does the PAR meter work? Is it like a laser that you point and shoot at the tank? I would love to see the values of my tank.

With the High PAR values in your tank, I am very interested in watching the growth in your tank. Do you have a newer FTS?

Yes we can get it down to the Southern teir and points in-between. I just need people to organize who will take it and run from there.
For obvious reasons I can not be taking it to different areas of the State. But the more information we get the better for everyone.

Magdelan,
It looks similar to many of the meters used in reefs, the readout portion telling you the PAR digitally. The sensor is a small cycindar with a light reception end you aim at the lights.

My bulbs are 1 mos old in the center and 3-4 months old on the outside (12k's). The problem I have had with many corals has been too much light bleaching and killing them. Need to start a process of acclimating them from the bottom of the tank up instead of just placing them where I want them.

Will take a current shot today before the football games start.

Yeah, I'm totally interested in getting my tank shot... Couldn't make the crawl, was suffering in Montreal (never drive a car there) and couldn't show. Is it still with Randy/Keith?

I could be wrong but I think that the units of measure are wrong.

typical PAR meter readings are measured in umol/m^-2 s^-1 ( 1 / seconds) instead of seconds.

Did you guys do any testing of PC fixtures or T5HO fixtures? I'd love to see your results.

HMM I posted and it went siberspace I think (either that or they are watching)
I gave the meter to R Maley and I wanted it to get from him to the Southerntier. Then wanted it to journey back to the 2/23 meeting and up to Syracuse. from there hopefully to Rochester.
