Hey guys, so i decided im gonna buy the Current USA Orbit Marine LED Saltwater Reef Lighting System, but i want to make sure it will work for my tank. So the question is(if it isnt obvious), will this light be able to provide enough light for a tank that is 18in wide X 28in high X 49in long? Thanks guys.

I don't think so.
I have one and I had to add a 6 bulb T5 fixture to get growth on any of my corals. And my tank is not as tall as yours.

Have a look at the marine Pro version, it has more LED's than the standard version.
It may have a few other features that are an improvement over the standard.
Looks like it may be a good choice for beginner corals and a good price.

Its way too much for me rn

With a 28" deep tank I would say no... if you're on a budget, go with a couple of Chinese black box fixtures.

With a 4 foot length to cover and only 18 inches front to back, I'd think you'd be able to get away with two fixtures if suspended properly over the tank. Of course, three would be better, but I'm guessing that you have a center brace.

Yeah I do have a centre brace, but will they be able to penetrate 28 inches deep?

Yes those Chinese black box are powerful may not have all bells and whistles but it grows corals.

Yeah I really don't care about the bells and whistles, I just need to know if it will be able to light a 28 inch high aquarium.

Yup it sure can two would be enough for a 48" tank.

Reef breeders, SB reef, oceans revive all work real well. Also heard great things about Mars aqua and vipesra forgot how to spell them.

Yeah I understand that, but my tank is 28 inches high so I'm not sure it they will be powerful enough to reach all the way down.

If you notice, people running them on 20" deep tanks have them dialed down quite a bit. Because of the adjustability of the intensities of the different channels, I think you'd be fine dialing them up to accommodate your 28" depth.

Any led fixture that I'm aware of that has 3 watt or 5 watt leds will be more than enough light for a 28" deep tank.

The issue with the Current fixture is that 0.5 watt leds don't penetrate very deep. Even their own chart on their website shows only a 50 PAR at 24" deep. That's barely enough to keep easy coral alive and not enough to keep them healthy or growing.

I ran reef breeders and Evos (both a type of black box) on a 27 in tall tank and neither light ever went over 60% power. I grew sps and lps.
