I voted no. I think that for short term, or for combating a particular infection or bacteria they can and will be beneficial. But long term they have proved to work against you.

Voted yes. I have no personal hard evidence but the tank has been problem free since I set it up with a UV. (2 years ago) and that's proof enough for me. And I have tons and tons of pods.
 
I use one after reading plenty of pro and con. Tank seems happy with plenty of life, Hippo hasn't had ick since and bubble algae got under control and disappeared.

Been using mine for a year and a half now, and I am the first to admit this result could all be from a number of factors. For example, the bulb has probably been past it's prime for some time now.
 
Great feedback and discussion - Tagreef had one of the best set up's and he used UV. I was hoping to solve some recent algea issues, but I need to feed less too. I picked it up on a good deal so I'll try it for a few months to see what I notice changes.
 
i used one on my 220 for a long time and never saw any bad affects due to its use but i also did not run 100% of my water through it so it might have been point less, never had i issue with nusance algea either...
