ushio or xm250

Need to replace 250 watt SE bulbs and thinking of either Ushio or xm250. Any thoughts or experiences with these. thanks

Ushio is a better bulb quality wise, it is also whiter, I had a 20k Ushio and and a 20k XM, the Ushio looks more like a 14k colorwise but it is alot brighter than the XM which is blue.

I would go with the Ushio...little more expensive but after blowing out a couple of XMs in 6mo, I switched. No problems with Ushio.

I use BLV which are the same as Ushio's and find that they offer good growth in corals.

Ushio baught BLV a few years back and they are now one company.

In Japan and USA the bulbs are usually sold under the name Ushio, but in the the rest of the world they are usually called BLV.

I've had both, XM gets you better growth.

So the BLV Nepturion are the same as the USA Ushios? Is the PAR still the same?

BTW, i just got the 10k blv Nepturion and the color is very nice, there's no hint of yellow. It's perfect!

Ushio is a little yellow, I used them for my first two sets of bulbs. I then switched to XM and the growth was fanastic and the color is more white. After two sets of those I recently switched to Reeflux 10k bulbs. I am a little torn on these, the blues and greens are better but the reds now look washed out. So far growth seems good though.

For price, you should consider the new ReefOptics line of bulbs. I switched over to the 175W 20k bulbs and I'm loving it.

Yes, it will be the same as the 10000K Ushio.
