Using livestock from the beach???

fishgate, I'm a native Floridian now living in Michigan. If I were to catch a fish or two while I'm home diving, do you know of any shops down there that will ship my fish to me?

My sister lives in Pensacola. We just visit from time to time from MD. We don't bring any fish back with us.

I see my name all over this thread. I do check my temp by touching the glass when I walk past the tank and the animals check the parameters for me.

Permits? Really? For discarded bottles and mud from a tide pool, and ghost shrimp from a marina?

Yes, very hard to get those bottle and mud permits. The federal Govt, has a special dept. for mud permits but you have to go to school to get it.
Ghost shrimp I get from the haunted parts of my marina.:worried:

In New York you can take whatever you want from the water as long as it is not endangered, protected or a game animal.
You can take all the hermit crabs, snails, pipefish, shost shrimp, worms, urchins or sea squirts that you want. You can even take manta rays or whale sharks being that they are not a food animal or native to NY waters.
(Of course you won't find any manta rays and whale sharks.
I used to have a sea urchin collection business and I went to the Depertment of Envirnmental Conservation to get a permit for them. No one there even knew what a sea urchin was so they said I could collect them. They are not collected for food in NY.
I can not take without a permit, lobsters, crabs, clams, oysters, scallop, conch, turtles or an undersized game fish. (turtles or diamond backed terripins are native to NY but are protected in any size) You can also not take a legal size game fish and keep it in a tank. You can eat it, but not keep it. I have no idea what that is about, seems stupid to me.:hmm4:

I just scooped up a trowelfull of mud from a tide pool, put it into a plastic container with some water, and transported it to Ohio where my tank is. No coral from a reef, just mud from a tidepool.

I do this almost every week and dump it in my reef.
This tidepool is loaded with ghost shrimp, here we call them grass shrimp.

This little bay is home to diamond backed terripin turtles. Billy Joel had his house on it's shore until he moved to the Hamptons.
