Using My RO/DI unit for both Drinking and Tank?

As stated above, Id like to use My RO/DI for both drinking and reefing.

My question will be.... i plan on keeping unit in basement and making reef water into barrels. What are the complications of getting water up to the main floor and to my sink?

Setting up a RO/DI is something i have never done so i have no idea on the logistics.

Pressure is the main issue you will face. Will the output pressure from the RO unit get the water upstairs? Can you do the reverse, i.e., put the unit under your sink and drop the RO/DI down to the barrels and the RO feed to your water tank for the sink? You are probably better off with RO as drinking water than RO/DI since some low level of minerals is beneficial.

RO systems work best when not short cycled. Drinking systems usually produce high tds than we like due to the short run times.

I've tapped them before to use and it always ended with reduced DI life for reefing. I ended up just tapping them before the membrane and just using the prefilters. Worked great.

If you want a system for drinking i'd dedicate one to the job.

I'm about to add a 2.5cuft catalytic carbon tank and water softener to filter chloramines and hard water from the whole home. Will be getting a RO specifically for drinking.

+1 I have had a RO (whole house - 2x fridge) + DI (Tank) system for 12 yrs. YES same RO membrane! I do turn OFF the RO pressure tank when making RODI for the tank.
