UV Shielding Glass

I broke the UV Shielding Glass in my 250 watt hqi retrofit reflector this weekend and wanted to see if anyone knew where I might be able to purchase another one?

I had to order one off the internet, a couple of years back, and in the mean time, make sure you don't have the light on as it will kill your coral. If I remember right, I just googled the net for that, just make sure you get the right measurements.

Hmm, I do not run UV glass on my MH lighting, Is that something you need just for HQI? or for all MH. I've never heard that B4.

I think is is just for the double ended bulbs, I think the screw in type have it built into the bulb. someone with more knowledge may be able to correct me if I'm wrong, but that is my understanding.

the clear glass on a se bulb is the uv shield that is why if it breaks you need to get rid of it even though the bulb will light. this happened to a few people I knew and killed the tank area that the light shined on.

Hey Norman, thanks for the feedback. Do you remember who you used? I have browsed on the internet and just keep coming up with some type of coating that you can apply and nothing as far as just getting a piece cut or anything. I believe the name of the glass is called Low-E

Norman and wayne you both right se lights.

Have you tried the. Citter I know I seen the HQ viper shield. So mayby they can order it for you.

Shane I looked but I did not bookmark that site, I remember having to call them as the size I wanted was not listed, but they were able to help me and they were located in LA. I think it may have been the Hamilton lights manufacturer, but just can't recall. sorry

Thanks for the Info Wayne, Have a nice trip up there to SD drive careful. I may be mistaken but Isn't any glass UV shielding?

I had my SE MH bulb bust on me when I was home.... Lucky me! It was a Hamilton bulb that I will NEVER purchase again!!! They make cheap bulbs! Local glass shops carrys uv shields I believe when I called about it awhile back......

I will never buy anything from Hamilton again Michael! I bought some power compact bulbs from them probably 8 years ago. The bulbs were faulty. As soon as you plugged them in, they would explode. In order to reuturn them, I had to pay the return shipping. After receiving the next batch, they exploded again. So I called and asked for a refund, and they refused, saying they would only exchange, and I had to pay the shipping.

I'm so with you there!!!! Both bulbs I ran separately and they both died and exploded around the same time around 4 months usage. When I called them they said it was my fault for not having a shield. I ran other MH bulbs fine for years without a shield. Talking about SE moguls here.....if it had happened when I wasn't home I would be very evil with Hamilton!!!!

might want to post your question in the lighting forum....somebody might know where to look or even have one laying around LOL

Tempered Glass will work just fine. Finding the right size without a special order may be the hard part.

Mobi

Like I've said. local glass shop. They will have all different sizes cause I've asked once before when I called.
