Different UV Sterilzers have different quality bulbs. Cheap UV's such as those from Coralife and those cheap Chinese made ones will need their bulbs replaced every 6 months or so. In some cases less. Quality ones are a different story. AquaUV which is what I run rates their bulbs at 90% of their original effectiveness after 12 months. I change mine every 12 months or so. I don't know what the rating is on the Emperor Aquatics ones.

Also, make sure the quartz sleeve is clear of mineral buildup. I clean mine at every bulb change.

You don't need to get bulbs from an aquarium supplier. I don't believe aquarium companies actually manufacture bulbs, they might just select from the cheapest possible options. Find a reputable medical germicidal bulb supplier and you will likely find bulb that fits your exact unit with high UV output and possibly even cheaper. i have an old Current USA UV unit and I've never bought a bulb from them. I just buy a standard UV germicidal bulb from a medical supplier and there are no issues with fit or anything else.
