Trying really hard to do the right thing here but confused on a few issues.

After reading both articles on ich and velvet I am some what confused as to what our fish have. Both are cured by Copper by the looks of it and as much as we hate to go in that direction it is starting to look like the best, sure fire way to make sure we kill off either parasite. My question is that after using the copper all the equipment .. IE our UV unit and the Power head we use to push water thru it will have copper on and in them.. If .. still researching .. but if we do the copper route.. can we return the UV unit and the power head back to our main displays sump.. or will that pose a problem with leaching etc?

Little history here.. we pulled all of our fish out of our display and placed them into a 33 gal QT. Reason for this? Our Maroon clown had spots on him.. we placed him in a small QT tank to begin with and started giving him pimafix. he started to look a little better after a few days.. I started doing some reading on this forum and found that if he had one of these ailments.. the rest would most likely be that way as well. Thus I spent a good portion of a day pulling our display apart and chasing all the lil buggers around with our net.. Man they do swim quick. A chromis has been acting a little off and breathing harder than usual as well and our six line wrasse had a spot on him as well.. this pushed the decision to pull them all out. Anyway the clown was covered in spots about the size of a small pencil lead... after a few days they changed to more of a white thin fuzz / haze on him in certain areas. He shed a lot of that yesterday but it looks about the same again today. The wrasse looks fine and the chromis is still breathing a little harder than normal... does this sound like velvet or ich ??

one or either velvet and ich are obviously in our display tank as well.. ich wont transfer to out shrimp etc... will velvet... I didn't read that in the articles at the top of this forum. They both will be killed off in our display providing we run it fishless for the 6-8 weeks..correct? Sorry if this is a bit of a jumble.. info overload :)

It could be brooknellya (sp?). If I understand Velvet correctly, it kills fish fast.

Yes and no on the equipments. You can use it, but there will be leeching of copper into your tank over time. However, if minimial copper has been exposed, I think you can use it without much negative affect.

i dont know if I would use a steralizer in the QT- Not much point without substrate. The copper will kill off anything in the tank that is not a fish. Im running my steralizer at roughly 50 gph in the main tank while the sick fish are in QT.
