V20 Soft Freeze foods production halted; 1:1000 causes Paralyzed / Blind wrasse

My fish became blind and paralyzed shortly after eating his new "Soft Freeze" foods. I spoke with the Owner of V20 foods, having a lengthy text conversation with him about the sudden onset of deadly effect upon my fish. We spoke further at RAP, where he told me "This is the 4th report we've gotten", and that "1:1000 jars of their Soft Frozen seems to affect fish like this". He said it's also "always the same symptoms".

Another member at a different forum chimed in and told me he lost some high dollar wrasse to this food. And that Wrasse are most susceptible to the Soft Freeze foods.

So beware the soft freeze foods..

Never heard of that food. But what the hell is in it to cause that?? 1:1000, he's had 4 reports. So that's not a lot of sales, newer company? Probably should recall it or something. Food shouldn't do that to a fish.

V20 foods used to be Ocean Nutrition. They're one of the oldest and more respected food companies. CEO sold the company to found a new one making higher quality food. Until the Soft Freeze, it's all been good.

I will take a permanent pass on this brand.

I have six wrasse and it affected four of them. Here's my poor blue flasher wrasse after eating v20 soft freeze

The fish survived but does not act or look the same. I fed the fish food over seven months ago and the flasher is all marbled color to this day. I should snap another picture, he looks awful. I tried every supplement available to try and get him healthy with no luck. [emoji20]

Pass on this crap

Where is this manufactured?

I would also consider posting this in the other subforums to get more views. I think it's important enough.

Said it the second I saw soft freeze food...."Yeah antifreeze in fish food, sounds like a wonderful idea."

Sounds like the word needs to get out about this food ASAP. I'm sorry for those of you who had to find this out the hard way...

So, did they issue a recall and start an investigation to find out what is causing this or is it just the usual warning "in rare cases you may experience side effects like blindness and deaths"... or not even that?

He said they will stop producing it to solve the issue. But there are jars of it all over the place already.

My guess is he's just telling you that. He has told others the same thing dating back over a half of a year ago.

That's a shame, but after "This has NEVER happened", "Not in 30 years has anything like this happened before" to in person "This happens to 1:1000"... I don't doubt it.

I figure it's much much higher number and this company is playing Russian roulette with our fish. I'm done talking about it, I'm ****ed.

I would rather follow a long-standing American tradition: sue them!

Another thing to do would be to notify all the online retailers who carry this stuff.

Also contact or comment on review sites and blogs that were reporting about this food.

Get others who have been affected by this do the same.
The message needs to be spread to prevent more fish being poisoned.

Though I get what you're saying, trying to sue a company for a fish that cost you less than 10K won't get anything for you in the the end. Lawyer fees will cost you way more that than any fish or fishes that you lost because of this...

Damn, I have been using the Soft Freeze Zooplanton for over a year to feed my LPS in my reef tank. The corals and fish love it. I haven't noticed any problems but I don't have any wrasses. I'm not going to press my luck with my fish. I'll throw it away. Thanks for the warning

Does the problem extend to their whole product line or is it restricted to the soft freeze foods? I've got lots of their foods sitting in my freezer and am wondering if I should toss them.

he said it was just the Soft Freeze.. I can't verify that of course.

It could be that the additive that keeps it soft causes the problem. Since it seems to be affecting only certain families of wrasses it could be a particular sensitivity of them - similar to the sensitivity to Chloroquine Phosphate they share with the Syngnathiformes.
