vacuum pump for top off

i have been thinking of using a vacuum pump for auto top off with a float switch; it slowly drips water which i think would be ideal for a kalk mix top off. anyone had experience with this, is this a good or bad idea?

I'm setting up my new tank with a aqualifter pump on a timer. It is plumbed to a float switch as a safety. I tested the pump and it put out about 2 gallons in 1 hour with 25 feet of 1/4 tubing on the suction side. I plan on 2 short time cycles a day.

alans22- The only trouble with aqualifter is that they need cleaned. I run vinigar through mine every couple months and they do fine. pwf
