Is there any type vacuum/syphoning device that help me with the maintenance of a 36" deep 500g reef tank? I'm hoping for something with a large enough 'nozzle' to allow me to suck up Valonia bubbles as I pry them off the rock work.
I just used standard 1/2" Lee's plastic tubing - started a siphon into a filter sock in the sump. I could siphon forever and all the yucky stuff would wind up in the sock...
You could the same thing with 3/4" tubing if you wanted a stronger siphon... just terminate it in a sock in the sump, where it just circulates back into the tank...
I went to a hobby store and bought a chunk of clear hard plastic tubing (shaped like a dowel but hollow) crammed it on the end of a piece of 1/2" flexible hose and use the hard plastic tubing to both pry off and suck up valonia. It can't get the really big ones but I haven't found any really flexible larger hose yet.
