Long Post ----Thoughts/Ideas----
My 75 gal and 20gal QT were setup using water from my 125 that I took down. My Hippo tang and Marine Betta were moved from the 125, into the 75 for a month or so, while I set up a 300 gallon . Once the 300 was ready, I moved the hippo and betta from the 75 into the 300. I kept the water in the 75 and added an Achilles. I also put 2 clown fish into the 20gal. The achilles was great for a week and ate awesome. But in 12 hrs went from awesome to covered in, what i believe was velvet, then dead. The clown fish haven't shown any signs of illness/disease, and continue to eat and behave normally.
8 months or so ago, I lost 4 angels due to velvet. The hippo looked awful, but made a full recovery. I used ruby reef or ruby rally (which i don't think did anything ). However, the hippo made a full recovery as did the betta (which never showed any signs anyway ). I never let the tank go fallow, nor treated with copper,etc...The hippo has never shown any signs of velvet since, not even during the 2 tank moves.
Do you think the achilles brought the velvet with him? Or did my hippo carry it, and pass it on, during the time it was in the 75 and same water used? If so, I would expect the clowns to have some signs by now and possible previous outbreaks by the hippo.
