Velvet?

This has started on my Blue tang and now my Powder Blue seems to be getting the same thing. All fish are in QT tank so I need to know what to treat them with. Can anyone tell from this pic? The blue was eating and swimming around, as of yesterday started hiding in a corner. The powder is still swimming around and eating. Both are turning white.

Came home to both my powder blue and blue tang dead:( Naso shows no sign of the spots, nor does my clown. I want to treat them anyway but I really don't have any idea what they might have had and what could have killed them so fast. The Powder was swimming around fine last night and dead today:(

Please check out this pic and let me know what you think.

Hey Josh. Sorry to hear about your tangs. I'd agree with muppet that it could be Brook, the second pic looks a lot like it.

Did you recently add the clown to the QT? What is the source of the clown (was it wild caught?). If your tangs had been fine and suddenly showed these symptoms after adding the clownfish I would suspect it as the source of the disease and keep a very close eye on it as well as the Naso tang.

I'd agree with Brook as well... Brook kills very quickly. Best treatment is generally considered to be formalin.

Velvet also kills very quickly. What from those pictures makes you guys feel its brook?

+1 on the Brooklynella.

A fresh water dip and Formalyn is the ONLY thing that will cure it. If you don't treat IMMEDIATELY the fish will die. Google "Brooklynella, Formalin" and go to your LFS and get some. Set up a hospital tank and treat as directed. It is critical that you follow the directions for Formayln EXACTLY! Be sure to place an airstone in the HT as formlyn depletes oxygen and the fish will suffocate without it. I was able to save a female Clownfish who was near death before treatment, so I know this teatment works.

Good Luck.

Just wanted to update, my Naso and clown still show no signs of any disease. Swimming around, eating etc.

Plan is to still treat them with formalin and let my display tank remain fallow. What is the suggested time for my display tank? I have read anywhere from 4-8 weeks.

I'm with RBU1. I'm not seeing the brook from the pic. How quickly did this happen? Velvet kills much quicker that ich. Does your QT have an established biofilter? For ich or velvet Cupramine is the best.

The powder blue had no signs of anything, he went from looking fine to getting the white dots like the blue in the pic above to it's colors fading and dying within 36 hours. It might have been the stress of being caught and put into the QT that did him in, I do not know.

Not seeing brook either, for ich or velvet cupramine would be my med of choice, you have to be really careful using formalin.

Looking at the pb with the way his mouth was wide open seem like he was breathing rapidly before passing

The pale color and excess slime looks like Brook to me. I don't see any of the "rust" that is often seen with velvet. Of course it's hard to tell from deceased fish.

It's good to hear that the other fish are doing ok. IMO, if you feel that they're healthy don't risk using formalin on them.
