Velvet!!!!

For the third time my 55g is infected with velvet. At first, I introduced a starry blenny that brought in the velvet and killed everything. After that, I sterilized the tank with freshwater and started adding fish again. They began to show symptoms so I isolated and treated them but they still died. After this, drained all the water, added 2 bottles of cupramine to kill everything in the tank and let it go fallow for a month. I've added two fish and now one of them is glancing. I'm going to isolate and treat them but I want to make sure this doesn't happen again. This time, I'm going to...

1) Let tank go fallow for 8 weeks
2) Buy a UV sterilizer and run during the whole 8 week period
3) Perform weekly large volume water changes during the 8 week period

I really would hate to have to tear down and sterilize the tank because I've got some really great macroalgae and inverts in there too. With that in mind, are the measures I outlined above going to get rid of all the velvet in my tank or am I going to have to tear it apart?

I've used revive for oodinum. My scribble angel came down with velvet, I treated it with cuprmine and maracyn-2. The maracyn-2 treatment was 10 days, water change after 5 days cupramine treatment till on going. Scribbled looking much better and now eating. This treatment was done in a QT. the main tank I did a 10 day treatment of revive. Just added a flagfin so I'm watching it closely. If no signs of disease in 2 weeks will most likely add thescribble back to display.

Thank you for responding ! Revive huh? I'll certainly pick some up. Are it's claims about being safe for display tanks true? Also, it doesn't specify if it will harm algae, what have you noticed?

Why not just QT your fish before putting them in and take care of any diseases in the QT?

Yes, QT fish before putting in display. Most likely the fish are bringing velvet in with them.

There is not a single proven Reef Safe product for ich/velvet. Cupramine is an excellent copper treatment for ich and velvet. It is very affective and well tolerated by even "copper" sensitive fish.

I do quarantine my fishes but I didn't quarantine the first one that introduced the velvet. I learned my lesson and have quarantined all other fish but the problem is that the disease is in my display tank.

My question is simply concerning if the measures I outlined above are going to remove the velvet from my tank. I learned my lesson long ago the first time that velvet was introduced and now I quarantine all new fishes. But the damage has been done and now I just need to get it out of the tank.

I would like to know how to get it out the display also. I have A Chrysurus angel that is in the display[from juvi to adult]exits no signs of the disease. Only new fish. I wish I knew what do. Thinking of getting rid of the rocks and the aragamite.
