I think you need to make the current gift certificate offer more clear on your website. Last week while looking at the list of items that would receive a gift certificate of up to $100 I saw an item I wanted to try. No where on the website did it list what amount gift certificate the item would get so I called Marine Depot to ask. I provided the lady on the phone the part number and requested to know how much the gift certificate would be since the web site said "up to". She informed me that the part number I provided, PR-25uv would receive a gift certificate for $100 and that the "up to" statement was a typo, all these items would receive the $100. She also told me the gift certificate would come in the form of an email. Shortly after I placed my order and eagerly awaited a new Orphek LED bulb to try on a new project. I never received an email and today the lamp came with no indication of a gift certificate.
I once again called Marine Depot to find out how to obtain the gift certificate and was informed that not only was the part number that I ordered not included, the gift certificate would have only been $25! I can't believe this. Now I have to return the lamp and am very frustrated at how poorly your website displays these discount offers since clearly I can't rely on your customer service to know.
I think you need to walk through one of these purchases as a customer.
I click on the link from the main page that entices me to see what is included in the sale. A list of items comes up and I can't believe it, the first item on the list is something I want but have not been willing to spend $200 on. So far your web site has done it's job. I saw the sale, I got to a list and I want to buy. Now the confusion sets in. I click on the item listed which is a PR-25. It takes me to the item details where there is no mention of the gift certificate. I check another item from that list and same thing, no mention of the gift certificate on the item detail page. Now I go back through the main page links to the item I want to buy. How do I know what the heck the gift certificate is for? Before I can order I must select a style. As it turns out the PR-25UV is one of the options, great I would rather try that one. I add it to the cart and look for details about the gift certificate, none. Now wanting to ensure that the amount of the gift certificate is enough to make me buy I do what I feel ensures good information. I picked up the phone and called Marine Depot. The lady in customer service was very nice and looked up the information. I gave her the part number PR-25UV right from my cart. She seemed to also have to look in multiple places to find it. She said the gift certificate would be in the amount of $100. I told her I was unsure because the web site said " up to $100 ". She said it was a typo and all items would receive the $100 gift certificate. Great! I ordered it within the hour. Now 5 days of happy anticipation. Followed by frustrated and ****ed off.
Had your web site been more clear I would not be so frustrated with the poor information I received. I hope that it is not your intention for the amount of the gift certificate to be some sort of a surprise for customers, you won't have many sales that way.
Regardless I am sending back the lamp I believe to be overpriced and will rethink my next order as I wonder if it is what it says it is.
