Vertex Alpha 200 Leak!

Jeremy,

Like many of your customers, I waited two months for the Alpha 200 Vertex skimmer. Today, it arrived, which I'm thankful for. My only quarrel is that the skimmer is leaking at the bottom of the collection cup (i.e. where the collection cup joins with the top of the cone body - the grey part). I know you'll take care of me. I bought this skimmer with the understanding that it was made by one of the best skimmer manufacturers, Bubble King, and sold by a reputable dealer, Premium Aquatics :)

I'm also wondering whether the skimmer is meant to include instructions, as I did not receive a copy.

Thank you for your help

Are you missing the little red o-ring on the bottom of the collection cup? That would explain the leak. Check the packing materials to make sure its not hiding. :)

As far as the instructions, they are usually posted online. Vertex has a new website going up now, they will most likely be posted there soon. The joy of getting toys before they even have time to make directions. ;)

If the cup is leaking pull the o-ring out and run some more lube on it, and tighten it back on. You can tighten it down pretty tight as well to seal up the leak, you won't break it! :)

I apologize for the delay. I appreciate your suggestions. I've followed your advice. In order to stop the leak, I need to tighten the collection cup so much that two people are needed to remove the collection cup for cleaning (i.e. one person to hold the base and another to twist the collection cup). This is not a practical fix as no one is around when I'm performing maintenance on the tank. Surely, Alpha 200 owners are not expected to have a second person present in order to empty the collection cup. :)

Please let me know how you wish to proceed

Thanks in advance

Rick
