Vertex Skimmer club

Wish I could call in sick today to receive my IN-100...but I'm off for a couple days tomorrow so Ill have time to mess with it.There isn't any water in the tank anyway so all I can do is fondle it I suppose...rock gets here Tuesday too!

Still adjusting mine - and just got a new return pump, so I'm sure it will cause a tweak or two. Just cleaned the neck and cup a bit ago, so I'll get a pic in the next day or two. It's getting there!

Hello all- I just joined the club with a new IN80 on my small system. I figure the 80 was plenty big for a 29 display tank and a 20 gallon sump. I figure that after the displacement of rock and sand in the main and only 15 gallons in the sump my total volume is about 40 gallons.

So far I'm very impressed with the quality of workmanship and the relative ease of assembly. As I just got it going we are still in the break in phase. I'll post a snappy tomorrow.

I ordered a Vertex IN-280 yesterday, it's on backorder from Marine Depot; I paid $319.79 (that includes shipping and insurance)!

It may be overkill for a 125 mixed reef with 25 + 35 gallon connected sumps, but I like overkill... I currently have an Aqua-C EV180/Mag 7 in one of those sumps, I may keep both running and alternate cleaning the cups (1 per day).

If possible, I would recommend positioning the wedgepipe on the side that the stand opens. That way it'll be easier to adjust (you won't have to reach around to the back) and you can see how much you're adjusting it, etc. ;)

Well I got scared out of using egg crate because of phos leeching out of them so I just bought a sheet of acryllic and a 6"x4" pvc coupling and used aquarium adheasive to attach. Also you cant see it but I drilled a huge hole in theback of the coupling pipe so water could flow.

been tagging along.
Phos leeching out of egg crate?
Is there a thread on this?
my in180 is sitting on a couple sheets of eggcrate from home depot.
Should i be concerned?

Well, crap! I tried to join the club but Premium Aquatics is out of stock on the Vertex 100 and it goes off sale tomorrow :(

Lots of wet skimate

Lots of wet skimate

I just set up an In-180 for my new 120 and have a huge amount of wet skimate. The cup fills up within 15 minutes. I have tried rotating the tube but that just makes it fill faster. Is this normal with a brand new tank setup? Should I let the tank water settle for awhile before turning on the skimmer or just turn it on and let the water drain from the collection cup?

Thanks

It sounds like you have the skimmer sitting in too much water. If the water level is too high the skimmer cup will overflow.
