Vertex Skimmer club

I just got the ceramic shafts today and replaced the broken one. It was still loud because of the rubber bushing housing inside the pump is out of round now and the impeller was wobbling. I fixed it by gluing the bushing in. So far so good pretty quiet. I will hold off on buying a new pump since my bio load is not high at all anyways. I will wait until this pump totally dies.

Has your pump quiet down Charlie?

Gatereef, not sure what you were asking but the skimmer is built like a tank, I bough used for 250 from Craigslist. I only have been running this pump on my system for about 2 weeks on and off because of the noise( broken shaft). It has a lot of potential i think.

I've been reading thru these threads about noisy pumps, and I guess I'm just lucky because my IN-80 is quiet as a mouse. I mean, you can hear it with the cabinet doors open, but close em and shhhhh!

My IN80 is pretty quiet as well, I think the 80 and the 100 have the same pump.

For those who are running the IN-80, how deep do you have the water in your sump?

I have mine in about 19cm of water.

Yes it has become very quiet, only the air line noise. I am working on silencer. IMHO, the BBpump is a great improvment over the resun.

hey charlie anymore pics of how the skimmer is running with the new pump? how is the skimmate and the foam hed look?

does anyone know where to buy the IN-100? They're out of stock at the usual sites like Premium Aquatics, Marine Depot, Aquacave, etc.. and the few sites that do have them don't specify whether it's the first or second generation

I have about a 11 x 9.5 inch section of my sump to fit a skimmer. Is it possible to re-arrange the IN-100 so it'll fit in that section? I know the Euro Reef RS 80 that I used to own could be moved to fit. Thanks

Ken, I called and found out first batch of pumps, did not have the 1" union in the box. but the new ones do. I hear your is on its way..
Your skimmer is right on the edge, of the 3000 and the 5000 ( but that was not out when you ordered your 3000:( )
My 180 was at max with the 3000 -- It turned it into a Vertex Bubble Monster! :)
Update, Reef Specialty sent me a message saying that the union is being sent to me from coralvue. Hope it is the 1" and not the 3/4". As of right now I have a piece of 1-1/4" vinyl tubing stretched over the outer male union threads and then a bushing to fit a 1" thinwall piece of pvc. However the inside diameter of the male half of the union included with the pump is still too restrictive. I hate to throw more money at this skimmer but if all else fails the BB 5000 may be in my future.

For anyone with a IN-180 or smaller this bubble blaster (hy-3000) would be an incredible upgrade.

Regarding the previous question about the Bubble Blaster over an Askol, I've not used the former but the BB pump is a solid performer.

I just installed a IN-100 in my sump area that measured 10.75x10.75 with plenty of room to spare. I shoved it all the way to one side and had approx. 1" of space, so you are going to be real close. I have outlet on same side as intake of pump but it is skimming great.

I'm looking for a new pump on my in-80. Its been pretty noisy from day one but now it never wants to restart. What would be a nice replacement? Thanks

Seems like a Sedra 3500 (used on ASM and Euro-Reef skimmers) would give you the same air draw. Expensive but reliable. May be worth considering.

Since putting in the replacement pinwheel assembly, my pump is really quiet. To the point that i heard a really loud suckingsound from the air line, so I rigged up a quick pill bottle silencer and its running nice and smooth now. It pulls a lot of stuff out of the tank.
And my IN-80 is sitting in 10 inches of water.

I'm not sure on the dims of the IN-80, but the BB HY2000 or 3000 should be perfect depending on body size. I just ordered a 3000 for my 8" body skimmer.
