Vertex Skimmer club

Purchase an IN250 gen2 this weekend.

-It is currently sitting in 7"- 7.5" of water and was pulling gunk right out of the box...after a short vinegar bath.
-pump runs super quiet, no way you could hear it in my sump room over my iwaki 100 return pump.

I already emptied a quarter inch of nog durng my dial in period(today)
I will post pics before I empty it again later this week.

Just bought the Vertex IN-280 from MarineDepot. Vertex's are 20% off this month and include free shipping. $319 shipped for my IN280. Can't beat that. Scheduled to arrive Tuesday. Can't wait.

premiumaquatics.com is matching suit :fun4:

Congrats on the order!

I filled the kitchen sink and added a cup of vinegar.

I'm not sure what difference it makes but I figured better to let it run outside of my tank first...who knows what is left behind from manufacturing???

anyone mesh modded the needle wheel yet ? i have the in 180 gen 2 and love it, even though it is way over kill for my system

Read the thread, Mojo meshed one, I don't remember exact results but I don't plan on meshing mine because he was empressed with results.
Have you got spare p/w? :)

For some mesh info go to page 13.

My 180 arrives tomorrow and i like to play around with my skimmers, So I will probably do mesh also.. I need to pick up a spare wheel somewhere :)

Just got my IN-280 today. WOW this skimmer is a beast. Won't be hooked up for a few more days but man the quality of this skimmer is way more than I expected. Very pleased so far.

I put in a filter sock the other cY for the first time and my in-80 went crazy. It instantly started foaming like I've never seen (thick foam). I had to open all the way to prevent continuous overfowing, and even then I had to empty the cup 4 times in 30 min. This lasted overnight and is now getting back near normal performance. The output was water with a yellow tint. Anyone have a similar experience? Should I be worried they the sock added something bad to my system? Think it has all been skimmed out now?

Anyone know what chemical / substance caused this?

This happens every time I put a dry filter sock in. I have NO idea why
Make sure you wash your sock first , Yes when new :)
any filter sock that is dried out, I wet with water before i put it in tank.

Wish i could help you out more, but I just don't know!:bounce3:

Woops, i missed the yellow tint part.. I never had that..

The yellow tint is suspect to me. I would soak the sock in some RO water for a day. In fact anything I get that is new (or used) that has never been in my tank before gets a day long soak in a bucket of RO water to leach out anything bad. That includes new pumps and small plumbing fittings. Maybe a bit overcautious but you never know what things have come in contact with before you get them. Things like tap water conditioners used to removes chlorine will cause a skimmer to overflow, so perhaps the sock was bleached with chlorine and then treated with a conditioner.

Putz28 - great (nasty) looking skim you have there. What size tank and bio load do you have? So far my IN-250 isn't producing that much but then again the load I have in my 180 does not have that many poo-producers, just smaller fish. However I do have to clean the cup neck every 3 days or it becomes too thick and stops foaming as much.

Same thing happened to me. Now after runnning the sock in the wash, I just soak and wring it with my water change water before i replace it.
No problems since.
