Charlie,
That looks really good. Where did you buy the pump from again? I will price the 5000. I have the sicce running on the skimmer right now just to have a skimmer.

I actually just ordered this pump earlier this morning from them, and looking at the pictures and how much air it's drawing it looks like I may have made a good choice. Only snag I ran into during ordering was their coupon redemption is not working for the free shipping so I had to send RS a message to refund me that amount. Really looking forward to giving this a try and kicking it up.

For others following this thread, just know that there is nothing wrong with the vertex pump... I'm just a performance nut who like to push things above and beyond.

BTW, I too mean no "ill -will" and , I hope none was taken. I am a "skimmer nut" and like to share my experiances with them.. This can only help us learn and grow...

BTW, I turned the discharge of the BBpump by simply removing 3 screws readjusting the output, and it now matches up exactly with the input on the 180 vertex

Ken, (and others) I have gone from 7/8 closed on wedge valve to 7/8 open!!!
Foam is more "creamy" also! I am sorry if I am posting too much... I am just happy/excited

Due to air draw noise, I used a silencer I had here. I then noticed the pump has a Hummm to it that the askoll pump does not have. I have a small room that is used for my tank equipment so its not bothering me, but I could not sleep if it was in my bedroom...
It could be part of break-in, but its alot louder than the resun pump.

BTW, I used 1" Thinwall pvc ( that is what I was told it is called) Its 1" ID, but smaller than normal 1" pvc on the outside, because wall of pipe is thin ..
Because it was smaller- it fit perfect into skimmer body, but I had to wrap teflon tape around it several times (6-7?) to make it fit the union..

reefguard, I would wait to hear what Ken thinks, but as of right now, I think it is powerfull enought for a 280.. It pushes my 180 to the absolute max! Valve is almost all the way open, skimmate production is greatly improved..

Hey charlie, that foam head looks pretty good so far. Let me know if the noise subsides. My stock (resun) pump was noisy when I first hooked it up but after a few days it quieted down. Hopefully the BB pump just needs to break in. RS says they shipped my pump this morning so I am like a kid who can't wait for Christmas morning!

BTW, I just heard back from coralvue, they do have a break-in period. For the newly designed- silcone carbide- shalf and bearings

At this moment, its running 42w and 49scfh at last reading.. My gauge is bouncing alot, so it could be more. the highest reading is 50, but ball is sometimes above that. (52/53?) I am looking to buy a 10-100scfh gauge. I may have to order one from dwyer..

Edit: just so you guys know, in pics of the throat for top skimmate pic, I had just wiped it clean with sponge, to get better pic. So actual foam head is better looking!
