I just noticed my football sized clam opening seems to be wide open where I can see inside him??? Not the spout side as it still looks normal and is spouting water as normal. The other large hole is wide open were I can see his insides??

I have had him for about 5 years and just moved his tank about 3 weeks ago to another room in the house. He did have one of his spawning events a few days ago where he made the water a little cloudy. I ran some carbon and the tank is doing great.

What is up with the wide opening???

Will this kill him???

Thanks

Andrew

it sounds like the clam is stressed out from the move. how close are the water parameters of the new tank to the old? how long has the new tank been set up? was there a lighting change?

The tank paramaters are much improved. The old tank needed to come down and be cleaned. It had a deep dirty sand bed and was full of algae that I tried for over a year to control.

I moved my rock and corals to a new tank after cleaning the rock with tank water. Again, this was over 3 weeks ago and I don't think it is an issue now.

My paramaters are perfect. No amonia, nitirite or nitrate with salifert. Calcium around 400 and alk at 8DKH. No more algae and the best proof of all, my corals are starting to color up and grow which they have not done for over a year now.

He is really opening the hole up where I can see his inerds, yuck.

I will re-check everything tonight and see if I am missing anything.

Thanks

Andrew

My thoughts:
Could be he needed the dirty tank to feed off the excess nutrients... a football sized clam must filter a lot of food. Since it is decreeased, maybe increase light, or raise clam higher?

Not sure what the problem is/was. He is not open and much and doing great. Still growing faster than I would like. Soon I will have to find him a new home!!!

Thanks

Andrew
