very large eel

My friend has a 350 gallon tank with an eel that has eaten every fish in site. He lives in St. Thomas, VI.
How would one get rid of an eel? He says he can't ship it out of the island(illegal) and the eel is from Idonesia (don't know exactly what kind of eel he has).

Just tell him to not release it under any circumstances. It's better dead than in waters where it didn't come from. This isn't only because it may somehow start a population of foreign eels there (pretty unlikely, although I'm not sure if it's known if morays can undergo parthenogenesis...). Foreign diseases can be as much or more dangerous to an ecosystem than foreign species.

If it's truly huge it may be a Gymnothorax javanicus, otherwise known as the giant moray. These are indigenous to the Indian Ocean.

That's good. Always better to be safe than sorry. So he can't ship into the U.S. That's a problem if he wants it gone. Is he in the US Virgin Islands? If so I'd think he could ship it just like a domestic package, then again I don't know much about import laws and what specific restrictions there are. I looked into some a while back but couldn't find any two sources that said the same thing...

He got it shipped to him somehow, wouldn't see a problem shipping it back out? Don't know much about the VI but he could post it up for free somewhere, newspaper etc? Or get another tank :) whatever he does, don't let it bite you! Haha!
