Very sad day

My blenny has died, and the family is very sad including me, I even had a dream with him last night. Yesterday evening we came home and after feeding the fish I noticed that Blenny was not around so we began looking for him and we found him behind the rocks in the back being eaten by the sallies and the hermits, so we just don't know how he died. I have very little algie in my tank only purple coraline. I noticed him the night before trying to eat the seaweed from the clip but my yellow tangs kept him at bay. I think he starved to death and was very weak to swim and them all these scavangers abused him until he died. My water is perfect 0 redings.1024 sg, 1300 magnesium,
77.6 deg. 450 calcium and 4 for alk. so I don't know.....all my other fish are fat and my corals are thriving, how much algie do you need to keep a blenny? I had him for almost 6 months and I want another one but only if is save for him in my tank....very sad, I loved that fish... :sad2:

I think you may have hit the nail on the head. The Tang bullied him away from the food. If you try another do this. During feeding have two algae feeding clips at opposite ends of the tank. That way the Tang can't control all the food.

I'm so sorry to hear about your loss. Those Blenny's have such cute little faces and personalities....you do get attached to them. What kind of Blenny was it?

We were sold a Scooter Blenny (which sadly we didn't research first) and were guaranteed it would do great in our newly established Fish only tank. We tried to save him by giving him to a fish store to put in their reef tank, but he didn't make it more than 2 months.

We have a Lawmower Blenny now in our 120 gal. reef tank. I was worried also that the Tangs would bully him out for the food. We do like Waterkeeper suggested. We put 2 clips with nori in there at opposite ends of the tank. He also really likes the Formula 2 frozen....so I make sure that I put enough in so he gets some.

my son actually cried last night before he went to sleep, I'll try the 2 clip thing but at this time I don't know how safe my tank is, I mean I have very little green algie due to the fact tha my cleaning crew and snails keep it in check.

Not my red lip blennie . The rascal bites me when I clean off his food off the glass (green film algae). Feels like sandpaper when he bites. He attacks when I touch the glass from the outside. Guess he's not giving up his meal without a fight. He may be that, but he's the one I check each and every morning making sure he's fine.

What is a feeding clip? In the past I have fed my Discus bloodworms by hand in my freshwater tank. Still building the saltwater tank and Im clueless to what a clip is, hehe

It's just a little spring clip (kind of like you put on the top of a bag of chips to keep it closed). You put the food on the clip and it either suction cups to the inside of the tank ....or.....the ones we have attach with a magnet. We put Nori or Ogo on there and just keep it in there all day for the tangs to graze on throughout the day.

I'm sorry to hear about your loss. I can't stand losing fish! Just an observation....I think your alkalinity is a little low. I would get it to at least 7, if not 9 if possible.

i keep discus too, what kind do you have?
i have some great big pairs that i got from discus hans a couple years ago.
i have a pair of red spoptted pidgeons a pair a red snakeskins,turqs and fire reds.
they are very beutiful fish.

I use an Instant ocean ocean master kit and the reading for a reef should be between 3.5 to 4.5mEq/L, and I'm at 4.0mEq/L, so I'm ok there also....I just don't know
