I have been trying to figure out why my tank has been showing a very high pH-around 9 or so. I manually check the the pH and it shows on a test for around 7.8. Corals all seem ok but some not as vibrant as usual. Figure that pH is actually low so calibrate BOTH ph probes pH and pH2.
I calibrate the probes and pH shows about 8.06 and pH2 at about 6.75. pH2 is in calcium reactor.
When calibrating the pH2 I turn off the calcium reactor pump so that I can remove the probe in the top of the reactor. After calibrating both probes and they show 8.06 and 6.75 I plug in the calcium reactor and by chance notice that the pH jumps to about 8.85????? The calcium reactor pump is plugged in to a DC8 but does the same in my DC4 and into a wall outlet????
pH is in the pH port and ph2 is in the ORP port. If I remove the ph and put it in the ORP it reads 7.8. If I then put the ph2 in the ph port the pH then jump to about 8.4.
When I plug any probe into the pH port it seems to disturb the measurements.
I know this is all confusing but any help would be appreciated.
I'm glad I caught this problem because my tank has been running at a very low pH.
thanks
