Never had a skimmer before, but just dumped my second nasty cupful of awful. Always thought they were sort of optional devices, but can't believe how much has been pulled out of a tank that is so new.
Not entirely sure yet, I have a purple dottyback in there too that just finally poked his head back out. Would like to get a wrasse or two, goby/pistol pair. Perhaps a Kole Yellow Eye Tang. I'd love a blue tang, but the tank is still a bit small for that I think - though I purposely kept the scape open for swimming room.
Picked this up yesterday, acclimating nicely. Will find it a permanent home on the rock sometime this week. Waiting for the anemone to find its happy place before I fix anything in place.
Yep, as of now it only hits it for about an hour in the morning. Will probably close that particular windows blinds at night, but for now its not an issue.
Whelp, my anemone went for a walk, fell off, and got stuck in a power head At least it went into an MP10 so it got stuck inside and knocked the magnet off, and not blended and disbursed throughout the tank.
Also a nice size pistol shrimp, but he burrowed away before I got a picture. Will pick up a yellow watchman to go with him, and then done with livestock additions for a little while. Still want to pick up a wrasse or two.
Few other updated pictures
If you look closely, you can see an emerald crab hanging out in there.
Incredibly, he must have jumped through the Eheim feeder port (and not hit the feeder itself). Found him on top of the screen. Only had it a little while, but it was a cool fish.Going to have to see what other modifications I can make to ensure this doesn't happen again.
I was really quite bummed about the Diamond Goby having jumped, so I set out to make the tank jumper-proof.
Most likely culprit was jumping out of the port for the Eheim feeder. Printed out a 2" thick grate to go inside of that, allowing food in, but keeping fish out.
This was the first iteration, but food had a tendency to bounce off the grate and land on top of the screening. No Bueno.
Rejigged the model to slope inward, food now bounces toward the center and into the tank.
Next up was the wonky screen. It was never as square as I wanted it to be, as it ended up getting torsioned when installing the screening. Printed up some three-way screening braces to add a crossbar to the middle (between lights, no impact on light transmission). Then I had to deal with about a 3/8" gap all around the tank, due to the clips supporting the screen. Fixed that with some clear/white silicone weatherstripping. I made the screen about 1/64" of an inch to large in all directions, so it now requires a bit of a press fit to get onto the clips. No fish is escaping this.
Sorry to here about you goby. It always sucks to lose a pet. I had a Kole Tang jump out once and I had to get a cover too. On a good note though I really like the work you did with the cover. And the piece you printed for the feeder looks nice and should keep everything inside the tank.
Twin Spot Hogfish - really beautiful addition to the aquarium. A color I didn't have, and super active, always cruising along the rocks.
6-Line Wrasse. Hasn't proved to be photogenic, but a model citizen. Only jerk I have right now is my purple dottyback, but it's actually become a better inhabitant now that there are others around. Everyone seems to get along great, only every once in awhile the dotty chases everyone.
The one thing that annoys me with this tank being only a few feet from my desk that I'm at ten hours a day, is the glare from the LED pucks, so I printed up shields for them.
Don't mind the plastic container, just some stuff in psuedo-quarantine. Had to treat the hell out of a couple zoas, so put them there to recover before I reattach.
