vho lighting

is 440watts of vho lighting enought to grow sps? if not what type of corals would i be able to grow? i have a 55 gal tank 48x18x13. i also want your oppinions on vho lighting vs metal halide. thanks

I think so. I have 4x110 VHO actinic and 4x65 PC. I have a couple of SPS frags near the top that are doing really really well. I also have a crocea that is doing great. I have a 60g 18" high tank.

You'll get a lot of differing opinions. Various corals require various levels of lighting. There are some nice VHO tanks around, although the lower levels in the tank might not be amenable to the higher-light corals.

Personally, I like metal halide for the glitter lines and the spectrum, and it can be more efficient in terms of electricity per unit of PAR.

Do what I did then. Buy a frag or two of something easy and see how well it does near the top of your tank.
