Vibrations causing stress?

5.5 gallon tank and its on my desk. Just so you guys dont wonder where the tank is

So ive never really seen any information on this anywhere but i figured id post up and see what people have to say. My friend plays some pretty loud hip hop and his speakers are about 2 feet from my desk pointed at it in our dorm. I can feel the small vibrations on the desk similar to that you would feel from a sub in a car. Nothing crazy but yeah. I was wondering if you guys think this would effect the tank at all? i really dont but im just curious

This brings me to my second question. I know "dont tap on the glass" it stresses out the fish. But is this true? Does it also stress out corals and could it lead to the deterioration of corals and eventual death? I ask because said roomate also rides an indoboard. An indo board is a balance board. He also smokes a lot of weed and when hes high regular balance board isnt good enoguh so he gets on the speaker box between the desks and rides it back and forth. A lot of the time the board shoots off and bangs hard into my desk causing it to "shake" i guess you could say. Just take your hand and slam it on your desk right now and thats basically what it does to my desk. I have my tank on the end of the desk and i often notice one of the zoas will close up after he does it or i hit my hand on it to simulate it. Could this cause stress and death to things besides fish?

Maybe you shuld tone your roomie down a bit. Or going to wait till he put his board through your tank?

the board cant go through, its on the opposite side of the desk...i can calm him down most of the time but weed makes things a lot harder and i get a lot of sarcastic blank stares and "oh...ok" *continues doing it*

im a little less worried about making him stop as much as if you guys know if anythign will happen

When you see...DONT TAP ON THE GLASS....There is a reason.

If you do this is scares the fish.....It sends LOUD sound waves through the water......Its like smacking you on the head with a hammer.......

Next time your room mate does it.......Start hitting him on the head with a hammer..........TELL him, you will STOP......when he stops.

Hmmmm. Short answer is yes, vibration = stress. The good news is it's easy to fix.

Step one, start pouring SW into the wheelbearings of his board.
Step two, dunk his stash in skimmate.

When he finally catches on, just tell him when his behavior changes, so will yours. Oh, and tell him we said to pull his d@mn pants up!

LOL nice

A time ago I had a friend, set up a real nice tank. He had a killer stereo......He had a party, turned up the tunes. Result, next day there were $500 in fish floating at the top of his tank. Sound travels through water aprox 5X faster than air. It is very detrimental to sea life (in general)
