I took a video of the tank today to show the micro bubble problem Im having

the compression to upload to youtube kind of made the bubbles hard to see, but there are billions of them

you can see how I modified the drain output in the sump by placing a Tee at the end with one end coming out above the water

IM getting awesome flow in the tank and I really dont want to have to cut it back because right now I dont need any powerheads inside the tank

I turned the skimmer off and it made no difference so I know its not the skimmer

anyways, here's the video....any advice is appreciated......this sucks

as usual, the soundtrack is awesome

If you've got too much flow going through the sump the bubble traps won't do too much. The water flows through too quickly for them to rise to the surface.

Is that a Humu?

Is that a Humu?

I thought they would trash a reef. I had to get rid on mine when I got new live rock bacause it was munching everything.. including hte rocks.

Yeah. Not sure how you can stop the bubbles....but the faster the better. Microbubbles have killed my corals by sticking to them and lead to algae problems with me.

Anyways, my tank drain is under water into a sectioned off portion of the sump that is filled with rocks then goes to the skimmer, then through chaeto, then a couple baffles and then is returned. I can't tell by the video, how your sump is setup.

Silicone plumbers grease... or silicone all of your fittings. DO you have loc-line? If so pop them apart and use the silicone grease on them as well.

Try those things then go from there... sounds like you are sucking air from someplace, besides your music collection!!!

SCORE!!!!

the bubbles are for sure from the sump

you can see billions of them in the sump where the water rushes in

check out towards the end of the video when you can see the water coming in to the sump

I could not tell if the bubbles were from your return or skimmer! Unplug the skimmer, do they go away?

If they don't try replumbing the return, sort of rerouting it

ask fade about to much flow through the sump

best bet is to build a degassing section and than have that pur into the sump

It's the way you have your sump set up. Your sump is too short to have the return pump in the center. I would move it over to the left and return all the water from the water from the tank into your skimmer section...

i was reading different setups on sumps from melevsreef.com i'm gonna do 3 compartments, first for overflow to drain in with skimmer, second for fuge with chaeto and live rock rubble, and last for return pump so hopefully won't have to worry about micro bubbles

BK, my far left baffle is significantly higher than the others, so I could enter the left

IM gonna try using a T to split the drain like I had in the old setup first before I got changing everything

moving the pump would be a huge pain in the ***

As long as it's a steady water line it does not matter if it's left or right. (steady line for skimmer) I'm not sure if you could move the baffles further apart. The velocity of the water is draging bubles with it...If your concerned about your cheato and water flow being too fast then don't be. I have about 1200GPH going through mine and it's fine... I even have mangroves growing in that flow...

The benefit to having one return chamber and the skimmer in it is that you will pull a lot more stuff out of the water then the way you have it set up now. It's not a bad setup but there is always a better way to do it...

Yea BK made my sump, and it drains in the far right chamber with the skimmer, the center has rocks and sand and chaeto and the far left has the return. No micro bubbles at all with a filter sock on it and I'm using a mag12 return.

I could not really tell by the video, but how does your tank drain into the sump? How does it release the air that is coming down from your overflows?

Do you even need a filter sock?
