Vinyl bathmat to insulate skimmer vibes

hi all, i bought a vinyl bathmat with suction cups on the bottom to insulate my loud skimmer vibrations. My concern is that it smells rather vinyl-y.

think its bad for the life in the tank?

I have let it sit out for a while and boiled a section to try to de-odorize a bit.

The released plasticizer may be less than optimal, but I doubt anyone can prove it to be a problem without trying it. If you choose to use it, I'd wash it in warm soapy water, rinse well, let it air out for a few days, and then run extra carbon when putting it in. Use the minimum amount of the plastic that you need.
