vinyl tubing from home depot -- safe to use?

Hi,
I'm reading some threads the people are getting a white residue with vinyl tubing, seems from home depot. I looked at BRS, the tubing they sell is also vinyl. Is there anything to worry about using this? I just got some to tube from my Ca reactor. I thouroughly rinsed it -- ran warm water through it and over it. I know the big stores can bug bomb their stores. Maybe that white residue people are getting is the bug spray HD, etc might use ?????
Thanks

vinyl tubing is totally fine to use...
Like anything else its always smart to give it a vinegar/water cleaning prior to being placed into an aquarium..

i've got a lot of Home Depot/Lowe's vinyl tubing in my setup. half the places where water is moving it's through a vinyl tube. i wouldn't worry about it. i usually do wash them in warm water thought before use.

Just curious, but where did you get the bug bomb thing from? No Big Box store would intentionally coat an entire store in anything that would cause them to eventually get sued by anyone who might come in contact with it. That's just silly talk.

It's not the tube that's the problem, it's the barb fittings. They reduce flow quite significantly. I don't use vinyl tube anymore, but if I did I'd go up a size.

It's fine, vinyl is vinyl. It's a bit rigid though and is annoying as hell to work with lol. Do yourself a favor and go spend the cash on some silicone tubing from BRS.

Thanks everyone. I didn't see the silicone tubing there, til now of course. I already have the HD stuff. I have no issues with it's toughness, etc, in my usage of it makes 0% difference. I don't have any issues with its connecting to barbs. I like it's tight, less chance of leaking. So since the vote is that it's otay, then I'll use it.
A petsupermarket employee said they bug bomb :). Maybe some do and they shouldn't. who knows. but the stuff has a strong odor to it (not bug spray smell, but just some plastic solvent type smell) so I always rinse it well.

Regular pet stores that sell mammals will likely have a flea problem, not to mention ticks and toxoplasmosis. Best to buy your reef supplies from a specialty store.

Even though they are tight I would still recommend tightly fastening 1 or 2 zip ties around the connection.

I am using 1 inch diameter clear tubing to connect my ATO tank with the sink. I've used it for two years with no problems. I too have a white buildup but I have hard well water that I use without treating so I think it is just lime/calcium scale.
