Reef Bass
colors and textures
I missed the tank tour last year because of scheduling conflicts. Would anyone be up for sharing shots of their tanks and maybe a wee summary of their critters and / or experience with it?
For example, here's mine. The pic doesn't do the tank justice (the optics of my point and shoot just don't compare with those of my dSLR's macro lens), and then any yummy detail that did get captured goes out the window when resizing down for browser display.
I need more purple coraline. NOT! It's everywhere I don't actively scrape.
The tank has been running as SW for almost 5 years. Started out fish only with a uv sterlizer, wet/dry biofilter and PC lighting. Then I heard about the benefit of live rocks (even better than pet rocks!) so it was FOWLR for a couple years. Then I realized "all I need are halides" and I could have corals and clams.
My first coral was Purple Tip Acro from Caesars. I kept waiting for it to bleach and die but much to my delight it got more purple and larger instead. James clued me in on the club and it's been downhill ever since. Now I have lots of sps and even some lps that I never thought would be interesting.
If you look really closely you can see my Sunburst Anthias between the vertical arch of live rock the Idaho Grape Monti cap is sitting on and the the Purple Tip Acro to the right of it. Trying to get a shot of my fish is like getting a picture of my kids. If two of the three are visible and smiling, I have to consider it a keeper. The Purple Tang is of course the ruler of the tank. The Royal Gramma is looking for his chance to take the tang out but is physically unable to do so. The Sunburst Anthias swims merrily about the tank just being cute and happy. The clam under the tang usually extends its mantle wonderfully, but the tang just swam over him, so he sucked it back in.
