Virus in Banggai cardinals

Hi,

I've read quite a few posts re: dying Banggais due to a viral problem in the WC fish.

I was wondering if anybody had any experience as to whether this seems to be something that happens all year round, or there are particular times when it is especially bad?

I was also wondering how common it is - does every batch of fish seem to have this virus, or only the occasional batch?

Cheers,

Can you link the posts/determination of viral problems?

Im glad you found it useful.
Its been a huge problem and concern, the issue at stake is that iridioviruses are common, and is it a stress-related activation or immune suppression due to S&H or are the fish contracting this pathogen during the collection/holding. Lastly, of course-- what to do.
Viruses are difficult to treat, and in mammals at least- supportive care is given to allow the host innate immune defenses to start working. Unfortunately what we're seeing this that the fish are dropping long before their immunity is built up
