Visiting Denver - LFS Recommendations?

Hey,

Going to be vacationing in Denver next week. Would love to hit an LFS or two and want to know what the better / larger ones are in the Denver area.

I like high end fish and corals, I can see yellow tangs at home :)

Let me know your thoughts,
Scott

I appreciate the info.

What are some of the highlights of these two places?

Large selection? Rare stock? Large Display / Show Tanks?

wait i take that back ...i believe i heard that aquamart quit supporting local clubs

but check out oceans apart ...they are mostly fish and some coral but they have some fish that other stores dont

IMO dont bother with fish palace, todd's tropcial fish, or key's island

i have also heard aqua imports in boulder is a really nice store

We are staying at:
The Westin Tabor Center, Denver
1672 Lawrence Street,
Denver, Colorado

Closer the better as we are flying in but a good store is well worth the cab fare :)

Thanks for the suggestions I will be sure to hit up one or two.

Side note, we are planning on hitting the Buckhorn Exchange for dinner one night - any suggestions / opinions?

never heard of the buckhorne exchange ...so that s kinda scary ....but there are plenty of well known restaurants in the area you are staying downtown ...i'm not real familiar with them thought so maybe you should ask around for those ....you will have plenty of food and entertainment along the 16th streeet mall ....and there is a good night life on blake and market streets near coors field

if i was going to check out one store in the area it would be oceans apart but be warned it is a smaller store ...however it is very clean and they do have some really nice fish

would i make the trip with all the things you could do downtown?....nope ....if you want to see some cool stuff go check out the downtown aquarium its closer ...unless you plan on buying something to take home

The Buckhorn Exchange is a fun place.... interesting food, unique offerings and a fun atmosphere. You'll like it as do many locals.

There aren't many LFS close to downtown. Better stores include Aquamart, Oceans Apart and Nepune's Tropicals. Key's Island is best known for small frags, though he sometimes has some unique fish. We don't have any high end stores or stores that carry rare and unusual fish on a regular basis. There are certainly gems to be found at times, but it takes a bit of searching.

We do have many high end coral farmers here in Colorado. You might want to check out their websites and arrange an in-person meeting. Some will be happy to meet you if they are heading your direction. Check out reefkoi corals, steel city corals and gonzos coral frags to name but a few.

There is a new store opening in Aravda (north west of Denver) that looks promising, Elite Reef. They might be open by the time you visit.

Good luck and hope you enjoy your visit to our fair city.

For those of you that have never been to the Buckhorn Exchange, It is a real slice of the old West. They still carry the first State of Colorado Liqour License and, yes it is License number 1 and is on display.

It is as rustic as feasible including mounted animal heads on the wall, etc. They "Ain't" cheap so be aware before you go.

To check out their site go to www.buckhornexchange.com I think the history and the menu make for good reading.:reading:

Tanglovers, enjoy your stay in Denver and make sure you have warm and cool wearing gear with you. Why? because April is Denver's third snowest month. You probably won't have any or, little snow but, temp ranges will be really interesting. Now, with that said, you can expect more really nice weather then bad.:spin3:
