Vitamin "c" dosing Calling the experts...

My wife has a great mortar & pestle that turns the pills into powder in no time. That having been said, the powder didn't dissolve all that well - but I won't be using them for too long. :D

Really quick side question - when I went to place the order for the iHerb product, I entered the coupon code from the previous page [violation] and received an error message "The code you've provided is invalid. Please enter a valid referral code." Not a big deal, but do you by chance have an updated code? Thanks!

Emergency was in my case, the fear of losing my favorite colony of Tubb's Blues--the last straw--which caused this whole dosing thing to start!

My emergency case was my tubbs blues as well and they died anyway. I would caution anyone to start doing this quickly. I did and have had more water chemistry problems than I could imagine, which has resulted in the death of 3 SPS as well as my zoas.

Hindsight is 20/20 and I would never take that approach again, particularly since no one has any advice on how to remedy my issues with the alk/calc balance.

If you are starting out doing this for the first time, please go slowly and learn from my mistakes. There isn't any good research behind this method, just conjecture. There have been some successes, but not enough failures for people to give any advice when things go wrong.

Let me ask another question - I don't recall seeing elsewhere on this thread (although it's probably somewhere on the other one) - what effects have people using VC seen with their clams? I have a crocea clam that's lost a good bit of the color in its mantle lately. It wasn't getting enough light but I took care of that about two months ago. It was coloring up nicely and then went downhill with the rest of my tank. Thoughts? Thanks!

what is the normal level of alkaline in our marine tank? before and after putting vit c on it? thanks...

WOWOWO my talk was perfect ph 8.3 alk 9.9 dkh 2 days ago. i started VC yesterday and BAM ph is back down to 7.8 i give up do i need to add my alk/ph buff along with vc ?

well i dont need to add that every day with out VC it would bring my alk up to hi. i think im just going to stop adding VC that seams alot easier lolol

you do he diy stuff i was using i think its kent but it locks in your ph at 8.3 and slow bring up ur alk would this be a good product to use along with vc

I've been using a Kent product - Pro Buffer dKH - since I started this past June (probably because the reefer who's tank I bought had it). I've been reasonably happy with it. Once my tank stabilized after I set it up the pH has been rock-solid at 8.2-8.3 (hard time interpolating the color exactly with my vision). However, my alk has fluctuated between 1.5-3 meq (dKH 4.2-8.4) but generally around 2.5 meq (7 dKH). I've actually wanted to keep it a bit higher but it doesn't seem to want to stay there. If dosing with VC actually raised my alk (as it did for the starter of this thread) that would be fine with me - within limits, of course. I don't know if this helps you but that's been my experience.

I have a separate question of my own, however. Tonight I shut all my flow down to feed my corals - the first time since I started dosing VC on Sunday. I don't know if it's related or not, but since the circulation stopped I've noticed that almost every solid surface in the tank is covered with fine bubbles, and there's a constant light series of bubbles rising from all over the tank. I don't want to leap to the conclusion that the VC is causing it just because of the time coincidence/sequence, but I've never seen this before. I'll try to post a pic or two later. I know there weren't "extra" bubbles introduced from a pump sucking air or anything like that. Is this normal/relatively common/seen before/what in the world are you talking about? Thanks.

Edit - OK, here's a pic - I think the thing I find most interesting is these bubbles all over the wildlife (snail in this case) as well as the rock.
