John, I think you have some great insights on skimmers but I would recommend following the advice you were given and not making it public. That is one sure way to Bannsville;)

It is one thing to be passionate, but quite another to be loyal to a brand based on beta-testing, word of mouth advertising, etc. You have been involved with a brand for a long time, it is no secret.

Im sorry, but I have been told by one of the mods that I am to: "Please refrain from participating in discussions that involve ATB skimmers or their competitors."

I dont get how I could be seen as 'commercial', but "Your affiliation/support/designs/ideas/testing, whatever you with to call it, with ATB is simply too close..." ...which I find odd since one would think I COULD be involved in the ATB forum then, not to mention, in the end, did Tom get two ATB's? I dont think so.

But anyways, while I work on getting this sorted out (I thought I had an agreement with Agu), I am not going to be helping anyone with skimmers it seems.

In the meantime, beware talking about a product you like too much... 'word of mouth' advertising is the new taboo (Energy, Grim Reefer, Deltec Rules, Volcano1, gcarrol, etc.).

That sux.

I think it is time for the thread to get back on track about the skimmer and what folks using the Volcano think of its performance, as well as tips for improving its performance.

Well,

I asked for Hahnmeisters input on the modification of a laguna pump. i.e. a tip to improve it's performance.

I spent $3600 on this skimmer not to mention the time and livestock lost and ANYONE that can help me and the others here out would be greatly appreciated.

Good grief this is frustrating.

So can hahn reply if I post to the ATB forum?

I didnt want to say more here Nanook: Just giving enough of the details so people dont speculate. If those things arent said up front, they tend to come out later anyways, so I dont see the harm in being honest. Im just preventing rumors. I dont think anything mhurley stated and I quoted was more than he would want known, and I did reply to him that I would comply so this can get sorted out. I didnt intend my post to be like an episode of 'Lost' where everyone is guessing.

I also 'beta tested' AquaEuro, I also give specs to CoralVue, SLS, etc. If someone makes a good product, I call it like I see it. But I really dont care to debate it here. I think I gave enough details already, and I really dont care to sidetrack Volcano users with this discussion about my status in the open. Please make all discussion regarding this via PM to me. I dont want to post here again.

sorry to hijack the thread .

realy not big deal to mod this pump but it's also depend on the skimmer size.

That's just plain junk. What kind of site is this?

One better off without you???

Ya know. I have run across a couple of moderators on this site that tended to respond when it was better to say nothing at all.

:wavehand:

Email me in a week if you want to discuss your future status here.

Well after texting back and forth tuesday and wednesday scott had me under the impression we would try and get a solution to fix this problem together. He promised me some new venturi's, a custom needlewheel, and diffuser plates. Now today he is MIA (10 text messages and no answer) and I have the feeling this will not get fixed by him. I think I will be sending my skimmer to a buddy and let him make some modifactions (he has some pretty cool ideas). He has a 300 gallon tank with a bunch of fish and corals (SPS and LPS), so it will be a decent test for the 1860. I just can't let all the money i spent on my fishroom, equipment, and livestock hang in the balance on a $3,000 item.

I'm sorry to see your experiencing the same frustations we have been discussing.

Last night I noticed a couple Volcanos for sale in the used forum.

I don't think the best solution is to sell the skimmers now with such a bad rap...IMO, the best solution would be to come up with a fix and then re-evaluate your options. These are a few options I have been given for a possible fix.

I think these look like awesome solutions. I know of a couple people who are interested.

i say you slap a cone retrofit onto the volcano and give it a try.the cones shape should lower head pressure on the pump and allow it to fill the body better.
