Volcanoe Skimmers

also i read the reeflo pump charts and from the beginning ordered a pump anything over 20 inches of height need to be pump fed (per reeflo)
also they tell you the bubble size increases with the pump the sand bed itself takes almost a year to fully mature as well as the live rock especially with sps true or not?
lets not put all the blame on 1 thing is this correct or not am i stating false realizm !!!! i say not
from what i see all you want is to push a newer style skimmer thats fine !

plus i wasnt saying that you cant push more air into it .i am trying a few experments with a volcano right now to satisfy everyones talk and not working on them i will post the results of all out comes
as is my system is 1 year and 6 months the volcano didnt go on my system till 10 months old(the tank)
before the volcano i had hair algae low redox you name it it was happening with in 3 weeks of adding the volcano my system turned around 100%
i dont know if you understand what iron does to water and the out come it can have ive been dealing with it for 5 years and learned a lot and spent a lot of money to understand it
there are great big bad things with it i had trouble with just a fish system for 3 years till i found what it was doing

True, there are skimmerless tanks, but with Tom's setup, the idea 'Berlin Method' comes to mind, which relies on a hefty skimmer as a cornerstone. We all know Tom is more than capable... his past Tank of the Month is proof of that. I saw the tank in its various stages, and while you are correct in that the skimmer is just one piece of the total upkeep, when your pH meter tells you that the water is at 8.2, and the maker tells you its correct... yet your water ends up being 7.0... you might have a gripe. Tom's Volcano was pulling less air than claimed, and had less of a capacity as well. He was starting to load up the tank with critters and corals, thinking his equipment was ready for it. Who knows, maybe if Tom had kept his 902, he might still be in the hobby. But its not just the Volcano's fault he is out... one (or was it both Tom?) of his replacements for the Volcano had a defective motor as well right off the bat!

Call it luck (or lack of it), call it built up aggrivation... the 'cano didnt help.

alright guys these threads about scott have been flying all over the place and the story to the best of my knowledge is that he resides in a jail for child pornography atleast thats what his buisness partners at the time have reported and since he has been gone the skimmers that were made were terrible.

call me crazy, but can't someone just replace a skimmer if it is not performing rather than watching the whole thing tank? If he had the $$$ to keep adding livestock I would think he had the money to buy a new skimmer. The Volcano might blow, but blaming failure on a skimmer is a little weak to me.

Really though guys who cares.. OP just wanted to see if volcano skimmers (scott) was still around.. He isn't. Some like his skimmers some don't. Non of it matters cause he has vanished and stopped returning calls for service or parts several months ago.. If he were to pop up tomorrow you would be crazy to give him money IMO... Just leave it at that.
