Volitan and frondosa

How about moving him in a large beach bag of sorts... I don't know how else to describe it.

I'm really nervous about moving him on several levels. Will he get hurt in the move. Will he like his new tank. Will the tank burp when I put this big ole fish in there. Will the movement in the living room annoy him. He's in a bedroom now. The TV isn't facing him, but of course it flashes.... and then there's the surround sound. Erf!

renee, the best way i have found to move bigger fish like your lion is to use a 5g bucket. just kind of guide him in the bucket and pull the bucket up. he would be a little cramped in the bucket but it would only be for a couple mins. Or you could find a wide shallow trash can of some sorts and do the same with it. Just a a suggestion.

well that is a horse of a different color. maybe try a narrower plastic trash can? what are the dems of the tank it is now?

it's a standard 60 gal, but the way the bracing is laid out over the top limits the size of any container one may try to fit into the tank.

personally, i'm thinking the best plan is to have a 5 gal bucket of SW tankside, quickly net the fish and go immediately into the bucket with it before it has much time to thrash in the net. then, simply add the fish to the new tank from the bucket.

IMHO, trying to use a lot of weird contortions and contraptions is going to upset the fish more than just netting it briefly...

Here's the problem.....

i dont see this as a problem. The fins fold back, - so unless this fish is 1 ft- 1 " wide- he'll fit -no problem.
lets see, drain all the water out of the tank, then reach in and...no no no.

Net him.........

oh, i see the problem now. i was thinking it was a standard AGA tank.

I hate netting fish, and avoid it like the plague. But i know you guys will have it all under control.

How long have you guys had the volitan? Did you buy it as the normal 2-3" juvi?

This is one of the first pics I can find of him. He's a little over 3 years now. The thermometer to the left will give you a little idea of his size at the time. That was his first tank... a 5 gallon cube... awwwwww.

The last time we netted him he unstealthed some spines and scratched up his eye. He's a bit of a freak in that regard.... the other scorps just kind of quiety take it.... he thrashes. So, knowing his personality, I was really hoping to use a bucket/container of sorts. The problem isn't him coming out.... but finding a bucket to get in past the supports..... that's the problem.

he is just a little guy in that picture, so tiny and cute.

I would go to a dollar store or walmart and see what size plastic totes/baskets they have. There has to something will work.

Thought maybe y'all would like to see this nasty pic. I was digging through my external drive and I came across a pic of when my lion had ich over a year ago. It was BAD. But as you can see from the pics above, he came though it well. Poor guy didn't even have anything to shed at that point. His skin looked so "dry".

I didn't put pics of the 100g in here? Odd....... forgive me if I stuck them elsewhere and this is a repeat.

View from my chair.....

Then when we turned on the lights..... lovely diatoms. The rock had been cycled in the dark for the last year.

Niiiiice.....

And today.... he gets his purple friend back. The right side... under a shelf.

Hi Renee,

You have the best looking fish.

I am wondering, what are you using for that purple rock? I assume it helps keep the fron nice and colored?
