Vortec vs Jebao

i have a pp4 on my 20 gallong, and a wp40 on my 90. I love the pp4 one, it is very powerful for a 20 gallon tank, and it is dead silent. The WP40 is a good one too, it is kinda bulky so it takes up a little space which is a little drawback. Overall though i am happy with them, and like you said they cost a fraction of 1 vortech...even if they do go bad (ive had mine for about 1.5 years so knock on wood, haha) you can get replacements for each...and its still less than the one vortech. Just my .02

Jaebo all the way. Cost vs Function equation for me. Very reliable and performs just as well as the high cost products. All you want is something to move water and paying top dollar is not something id want to spend my money on in this hobby.

Dont be fooled, Vortechs have just as many issues as Jaebos. do a quick search on the internet and see for yourself.

SAVE YOUR MONEY.

I'll chime in with my experience. I had 2 Jebao Rw 8's for around 2 years, mainly because it was all I could afford. However, I recently replaced them with an Ecotech MP40QD, and am now kicking myself for not starting with the Ecotech pumps. They're amazing, put out great flow, and the no wires in the tank thing actually really makes my aquarium look like part of the ocean. Are they expensive? Sure. But the Battery Backup feature, and the controllable features make it worth it for me. I'd put a Wavemaker up there in terms of vital equipment for a tank, and having one that has a proven track record of success seals the deal for me. I'll be purchasing another one soon.

I wonder if the jebao snubs drive bmw or (name your high end car).

a pump (regardless how high end it is), is not an investment. it loses value as soon as it touches water. lmao.

I agree. But, the peace of mind of the Battery Backup with Ecotech is worth the money, especially once you've really started to get into coral. Stuff adds up fast. I'm not expecting a return on my investment, but I am expecting peace of mind :)

The better question is, if you could buy a car for 1/2 price of an equivalent current model, that didn't pass crash testing and didn't meet emissions standards, would you still buy it?

I guess not. hypocrites.

there really is no right or wrong answer. people buy what they want. just because you don't want it does not mean everyone else who wants it is wrong.

Who's being a hypocrite? I drive a Porsche and my wife drives a Jeep, and used to drive a VW - But your question is not a good comparison because there are no uber cheap Chinese cars on the market (in North America), for good reason.

I kinda do want the MP10 obviously but i find even down the round i probably wont have a extra $250 sitting around for another MP10

I would buy used MP10's. The ES versions are not that much louder and the MP10 is not like the MP40 in that it received a huge redesign when the QD was released, the MP10 is the same other than the driver itself which can be upgraded later if you wish. You can find MP10wES's for probably $120 each or so.

Neither products (not Jebao nor Vortech/Ecotech) meet/hold are listed to any "safety" standards by themselves.. Both do utilize power supplies from companies that do though and both meet the same safety standards..

So its less than half the price and holds the same "standards".. ;)

Fairly sure they haven't stolen any IP or infringed on any patents either as they do not apply to them... Don't hate the player.. hate the game :)
I know companies have tried but don't believe any have held up in court.. The patent system is a joke anyways..

All this Jebao hate made me go buy a new return pump today.. just because I can.. :)
Jebao DCP-6500 for my new tank I'm setting up when I get home from vacation..
Now to buy the tank.. DeepBlue 80G rimless.. so pretty..

Another one i have found and am starting to really like and consider are Current USA Eflux wave pumps https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01M5E4N20/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER&psc=1 . They are a USA based company and the pumps and features look really nice on them so far reading from reviews and some videos on youtube. I wonder if i should get two of their 660GPH powerheads or get two of their 1000 GPH powerheads. Im leaning more towards their 1000 GPH ones. If i get two of the 1000 GPH's all in total will cost me $227.

I guess id ask the question, whose crash testing standards and emissions standards are you trying to meet?

If you want to buy their stuff, then fine, but don't say this kind of stuff - you have no idea what you are talking about. The lawyer for a few of these companies lives just minutes from me and it is true that there is absolutely nothing that they can do. I almost lost a company to IP theft and unfortunately know too much about this stuff - I with this on nobody. They cannot take anything to court because Jebao has no US presence whatsoever to file against - they lie about US warehouses and anything else about being the US. The free trade agreement between China and the US from a few years ago respects US patents, so it does absolutely apply to them, but are still untouchable - they rely on ignorance of indifference to sell their stuff. Either ignorance or indifference is acceptable, I guess, but both ignorance and indifference like these statements of "fairly sure" and "don't believe" is on another level. I can respect the people who will will just say "it is cheap, so I don't care" more than the ones who defend their business model with no idea of IP Law. I hope that nobody on this board or their family loses a job to a patent stealing foreign company, but it happens all the time - the next time that it happens to somebody that you care about, I will be willing to be that the ignorance or indifference will be gone.

If you want the ignorance to go away, this is how the process usually works for US and EU based IP theft... Suit gets filed on the stealing company and a fee-based licensing agreement is signed since nearly all of these type of situations end up as theft in court and the court. The innovating company uses this money to build the next great thing. The licensing agreement can keep going, or not, but basically the innovator keeps innovating and getting paid for their contribution to whatever industry - this is good for everybody.
