Vortec vs Jebao

There are likely a million reviews of them online, I've never used one but from what I have seen they move a ton of water. It may even be overkill for you.

I have just a single MP10 in a 40g breeder. And it's all I need. Moves some serious tons of water. A sleek low-profile device.

I have talked to a few people that have a 30 gallon tank like me and they say its not, just keep it on a low setting. Also i have seen many people use them in 45G cubes

I have:

- 2 x ecotech mp10
- 1 x jebao rw-8
- 1 x jebao rw-4
- 1 x coralbox qp-9

I am not using the mp10's because they are too noisy when compared to the others.

The qp-9 wins over the rw-8. I can't hear it on full speed on pulse mode.

I don't get the noise complaint myself. I am uber-sensitive to that type of thing and the MP10QD is not even close to loud. The ES were a little bit over about 70% but still not bad.

Someone do a noise comparison video :spin1:

Send me a vortech (standard and quite drive) and any others you have..I have access to all sorts of testing equipment including decibel meters.. ;) I'll send it back when I'm done of course.

Jebao definitely wins the noise contest vs vortech

I'd say an in tank motor housing has a lot to do with it.

Curious to see how they would compare to Tunzes on noise level

I don't know... aren't they the manufacturers themselves? Chinese companies' websites are normally much worse than that.

I don't have the box with me right now but I will check early next week.

Tunzes are quieter. But as previously mentioned my jebao experience is with the WP series. I've never owned the others. My Tunze 6105 are 100% silent. Even at 100% power. Cannot hear any discernible noise whatsoever. My jebao WP40 and WP25's are audible when they hit 75% power or more. Not bad though. Sounds like a cell phone on vibrate somewhere in the room you can't find.

I have two Jebao PP8s in my 90g tank. Very happy with their performance. I bought the $39 adapter cable to control them with my Apex. I could hear a faint hum noise when I first got them, but it went away a week later. I also have a Jebao return pump that is absolutely SILENT. My skimmer is much louder than the powerheads ever were. I think you'll be happy with two PP4s.

I'll chime in with my experience. I had 2 Jebao Rw 8's for around 2 years, mainly because it was all I could afford. However, I recently replaced them with an Ecotech MP40QD, and am now kicking myself for not starting with the Ecotech pumps. They're amazing, put out great flow, and the no wires in the tank thing actually really makes my aquarium look like part of the ocean.

Why did you switch to the vortech?

Also, I did a sound test way back in the day with a bunch of older vortechs running. The QD is so much quieter.

Had to bold the "so". The QD's are awesome, and amazingly quiet. The reason why I switched was I had already had to replace one of the controllers for my RW 8, and replace the power supply on the other one. I decided to get the Vortech MP40 because I certainly was worried about the RW 8's dying, and having my reef crash. The day my Vortech came, both of my Jebao's died. I tried to use them in my QT, my mixing barrel, they simply wouldn't move. I'm not going back, because the Jebao's stopped working, and because Vortech's kick some serious tail.
