vortech and tech tank

My vortech will not stick to any wall of my vortech. Could this have anything to do with the pin spacer. I have not adjusted it yet. I wanted to make sure they stick because I have heard about the problems with them and the tech tanks. I got it to stick barely on the side panel. If you tap it it falls apart. Im not sure what is wrong, I need help. The tank is still empty and brand new so I know there is nothing on the glass causing this.

my glass is 1/2 thick. I answered my own question. You need to rotate the boot to get a better hold. For info on the other threads, I got mine to stick on the back wall of the tank. one question though. If you set the dial to 5/8 and your glass is only 1/2", will it hurt the pump?

I have mine set to match the tank thickness. It never occurred to me to not follow their guidelines.

im at the guidelines but The magnetic connection does not feel very strong. I figured If I went one step up that it would hold better.

If you go one extra setting up to get a better magnetic attraction, it will not damage the pump in any way. Never go more than that as it will start causing the 2 halves to bind up and the pump run hotter.

Keep in mind that you are doing this on a dry tank. I have a feeling, and this really is just a guess, that once there is water in the tank, a certain degree of suction against the glass will occur.

I've never used mine on a dry tank like you are, as I added them to my system that's been running for years.

One more thought, just in case it matters. If the two halves have been together for a while without a spacer (usually a chunk of foam), the magnet will have become weakened. Did you have it them together like that for a duration?

I just got them yesterday and they were shipped together. No foam or anything in between. I will try the suction when my tank is full of water. Thanks for the response melev. I appreciate it

This is actually not true. Our magnets cannot lose their magnetic strength. They are shipped connected directly together with the pin spacer in between set on the "storage" setting. This is adequate and how the pump should always be stored if not being used on the aquarium.
