Vortech/jebao vs tank silicone issue

Well iv never seen any topics on this issue, so just thought of making a thread on this... as we know that these new wave generating pumps are awsm at generating massive flow in the tank. The back and forth movement of these pumps are like as if ur shaking the tank.. has anyone ever experienced a disaster like tank silicone just tares open creating a disaster? Especially on rimless tanks. Also if we go for larger tanks or smaller tanks, would a munimum 12mm glass be a minimum for this pumps? (This is not a thread for comparing the brand of pumps)

I can't say I've heard of anyones tanks ripping apart from wave motions, but I'm almost positive I remember seeing warning labels on Vortech pumps(maybe Jebao too) about wave motions potentially damaging the seams of aquariums. It's definitely no surprise considering how much Potential (and Kinetic?) force is behind each wave. I used to use a Vortech MP10 on a 20L QT before and it seemed to hold up just fine to full power NTM's waves

I guess a good build with extra silicone and braces, shud do the job caz last thing u wana see it the tank crashing

I imagine rimless tanks would suffer more than euro braced tanks, with traditionally braced/framed tanks faring the best. I would LOVE to see research on this. I'm running two RW8s on a traditional, non drilled 55gal and they push pretty hard on the glass, not to mention the occasional standing wave when I feel like stirring everything up. Tearing my tank up? Maybe I'll have to upgrade sooner than I planned (oh shucks).

I remember seeing some stuff on the waveboxes a little while back possibly causing issues since they really stir up some water, but I don't think the pumps would cause enough flow to really do any real harm

Well whats the physics behing it? Has any1 ever tested them? During old days ppl used tar instead of silicone then came the white silicone and now its black... though i still prefer white/clear since i like using extra silicone and dont care abt the neatness...

Im not a big fan of wave boxes coz they are ugly and since jebao and vortechs have come i dont know why still ppl buy them...

Some said that about waveboxes but I did not have any issues with one on my 300DD.

There is no comparison between a Wp pump and a Tunze Wave Box. I poured a bunch of Coral Frenzy (Powdered Coral Food) on the opposite side of the wave box and was amazed how it moved across the tank, even around my rock structures. My Frogspawn did not do very well with all the movement so I sold it and now use a Tunze Nano and a controllable Tunze.
