Vortech mp

Ok so I bought one mp10 and its running with my k4. I was amazed at how much flow it added. I removed a k3 and k1. Everyone has said to just put one mp40 in but I am afraid the flow would not be chaotic enough running just one powerhead(to laminer). So I was thinking about adding another mp10 at opposite side then future maybe one more mp10 on back glass. What are your thoughts. would three mp10s be great flow. I am not going to but an mp40 unless it is just the absolutley only way to go. Maybe I am just to old school but have always been taught and seen two is better than one no matter how big the one is. Its a 75g 48inches long.

I agree with you casey. I apperciate you commenting on what it is I am trying to accomplish instead of some other completely random idea lol. Do you have to mp10s if so what size are they and what kind of tank.

My tank size is same as yours. I don't have these Vortech pumps yet but I am planning to have them in the next few months or so. I want to replace my old Tunze pumps.

In that case let me tell you when I put that one mp10 in with the k4 all I can say is wow. I had a nice little wave going with just one mp10 and it stirred up a lot of crap. That is way I was thinking getting 3 in my tank total instead of one mp40. I know the 40 is way stronger but would thing three smaller would be way more random. Does anyone have a setup like this that can chime in. Or maybe a varation of this.

Depending on whaytype of corals your keeping 2 mp10 is not enough flow for a reef tank. I had 2 mp10 on my 60g and it was pretty weak, now I have2 mp40 and turned them down to 60% and its prefect.

So a 40 or higher turn over is to weak of a flow for sps. I have sps now and have been using much less flow then with two mp10s or even three of them and the are growing great.. I guess I dont see the point of spending twice as much to run them half as hard. Please elaborate.

That's what I am going to do, I will keep 1 Tunze 6055 to go with 2xMP10.

I figure my return is about 600gph. Then two vortechs run in ecosmart mode or reef crest. I think it will pump nice in tank and I always have korlias to sup if needed but love how the mp takes up no space. Any one out there runn two mp10 that can give us more insite to placement and mode.

Your running 2 mp10 on reef crest mode which is not at 100% for the whole time. That nit very muc flow. Your return don't count.

Return counts. Sps when small and growing won't need as much flow as when they are full colonies. That said what do you plan on keeping?

If its all sps then I would get a 40. If its mixed then I would get the 10.

Its a mixed but I do have sps. Thanks for chiming in racer you have helped me in the past. Glad you said that the return counts lol. I always thought flow was flow ho told you that return doesnt count karsse. I did just get off the phone with vortech they gave me some insight. I have been keeping tanks forever and just always bought equipment to get buy and have had great success. I mean I still run a seaclone skimmer for goodness sakes lol. I think how rocks are places and how coral grows decides how many pumps or how big you really need. racer do you think that to mp10s be sufficient until corals are really growing in then add a 3rd mp10 on back wall. I personally think that would give a broader more chaotic flow then one mp40. If I am wrong then I guess an mp40 is the next purchase lol.

Your right. It really depends on the rockwork and coral placement. If you don't overload the tank with rock and leave large openings you will get extra flow in areas that might be tricky to hit with 1 or 2 pumps. If you are planning on getting a 3rd on the back wall as corals grow in I think you would be good to go with two mp10 pumps.

I run lagoon mode. It is higher energy then reef crest.

I have 2MP10's on my 46gal with a sea swirl on my return useing a mag 9.5 and all my SPS are happy campers...

Ya I am really thinking about just breaking down and order the second mp10 today my rockwork is fairly open in my opinion and I love the way everything is moving with the one mp10

Just bought a used MP40 for my mixed reef tank (2nd gen). I was considering the 2 MP10s for quite awhile, but after seeing the MP40 in action I think it's much better option. Wouldn't want to go with any less flow. It doesn't overpower the 75g and I don't have to run it at 100%. I may buy an MP10 for the other side, but I'm getting very good flow with a Koralia 4 & MP40 right now.

I switched over to lagoon last night and with the K4 It was a ton of flow. If I found a mp40 for used cheap I would consider it but considering mp10 is 1500 at max in lagoon it doesnt really drop its flow a ton at the bottom of the cycle. so when you look a it a k4 is rated about 1200 but even after I clean my k4 really well and frequently it just doesnt seem to push as much water as when it was new. I have pretty open scape so I think the two mps will be enough unless anyone has a lead on used mp40

I have regular 75Gal 48" long and i have 1 Mp40 on one side and Mp10 on the other. I am really thinking to sell my Mp10 and get another Mp40. as the Mp10 in NOT strong enough for my SPS corals. So my Mp10Wes will be for sale soon...

Bartek send me a message when it is for sale. I have no issue with the mp10s. I may not have a lot of sps yet but the ones I do have really have had nice pe since I put the first one in. Can't wait to see what two can do or even three
