VorTech MP10 question

My tank has one MP10 Quiet Drive pump. I love it. One weird thing - maybe twice a day, I'll hearing this loud buzzing sound and see a spray of bubbles. Very rarely, I'll see a visible whirlpool above the pump.

The pump is about 3-4 inches below the water line (tank is 18 inches tall) and about 4 off the back wall(tank is 18 inches wide).

Is this random bubble burst just caused by the placement? I will say I didn't hear it when I had the sponge filter on the wet side. I've removed the filter since my nem is happy where he is.

Anyone else's VorTech's do this? Assuming it's not harming anything, I'll probably leave it be since I like where my nem is, and the flow seems to be good.

Mine does it. They all do it if placed toward the waterline. The pump is pulling so hard it is actually pulling air from the surface.

Lower the pump either physically or lower the max flow some.

But would sucking in some air damage anything? If anything, doesn't it just provide a little bit of extra oxygen?
