Vortech MP40 placement

I have 2 of these pumps in my 6' long 180 gallon tank. What is the correct placement/use.

Both on same side in sync? Anti sync?

Opposite sides in sync? Anti sync?

Mixed reef with SPS, LPS and some softies?

If there was a "correct" setting then they wouldn't have multiple settings :D

Me personally I leave them fairly high in the tank close to the water level, on opposite sides of the tank, this seems to get some very fast water flow going high, and the undercurrent just pulls gobs of detritus along. However your mileage might vary depending oh your rock formation.

I have mine running on reefcrest, I can't stand the ramping up sound from the pulse mode, not sure if they're synced, but they definitely arenot not anti-sync, but I didnt' set them up to be in sync either so they might both just be doing their own thing.

Mike brings up an excellent point: often the best setting for the pump will depend on your setup.

He also makes the best recommendation for a starting point: one on each side, high in the aquarium (perhaps 6" down), Reefcrest Mode. I would put the slave pump on anti-sync to get the most variety for that setup.

After you try this setup, I would recommend experimenting with pulse mode as well, again with the slave pump on anti-sync.
